What's included in full service lawn care
Plenty of lawn care companies in Tampa say full service and mean a quick mow. Our plans look after the whole yard, and every one includes:

- Edging along driveways, sidewalks, curbs, patios and bed lines
- String trimming around fences, mailboxes, trees and tight corners
- Shrub and bed maintenance: trimming, tidying and cutting back overgrowth

Lawn maintenance plans: 40 weeks or 50 weeks
We only offer full-service lawn maintenance, so we don't sell single mows or one-off cleanups. You choose a plan that runs 40 weeks or 50 weeks of the year.
Doug Wilson, our Director of Operations, walks the yard before a plan starts and writes the quote himself. It sets out what the crew looks after at your address, from the lawn to the hedges.
How high to mow St. Augustine, zoysia and Bermuda
Each lawn grass has its own mowing range, and UF/IFAS publishes them. The table covers the three grasses we install: the range, how each copes with shade and drought, and what to watch for.

Whatever the grass, UF/IFAS says never to remove more than one third of the blade in a single cut.

What a Tampa Bay lawn goes through in a year
Month by month, from UF/IFAS, SWFWMD and the National Weather Service:
- January
Turf is dormant in the dry season, and UF/IFAS advises irrigating as little as possible.
- April and May
Hot and dry until the rainy season starts (May 25 on the NWS average). Chinch bug injury shows first in St. Augustine that is water-stressed or in full sun.
- June to September
Rainy season: about 7.8 inches a month and around 60 percent of the year's rain, per SWFWMD. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30; storm cleanups come with every plan.
- September
UF/IFAS lists fall armyworms, chinch bugs, mole crickets and sod webworms as the pests to scout for.
- October to May
Dry season, about 3 inches of rain a month. UF/IFAS says to change how often you water with the season, not how much.
- November and December
UF/IFAS lists brown patch and large patch for these months. Large patch appears once temperatures drop below 80 degrees, usually between November and May, and extra water and nitrogen feed it.

Watering your lawn one day a week (as of October 2026)
As of October 2026, the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) Modified Phase III order lets you water a lawn on one day each week in Pasco, Hillsborough and Pinellas counties until March 31, 2027.
Your day and hours
On the District schedule, the last digit of your address sets the day: 0 or 1 Monday, 2 or 3 Tuesday, 4 or 5 Wednesday, 6 or 7 Thursday, 8 or 9 Friday. Sprinklers may run from 12:01 to 4 a.m. or 8 to 11:59 p.m., and a property under an acre uses one of those windows.
Pinellas and the City of Tampa
Pinellas County Utilities customers water on their own days, split at State Road 580, and city water customers in St. Petersburg and Clearwater follow their supplier. The City of Tampa uses the same weekday schedule and has kept restrictions year-round since 1992.
How much and how often
UF/IFAS says to water an established lawn when the blades fold, wilt or turn blue-gray, and to put down half to three quarters of an inch each time.
HOA rules and sprinklers
While the order lasts, no HOA may enforce a rule that needs more water, such as replacing plants to meet a looks standard. We don't install or repair irrigation; when the sprinkler check turns up a broken head or a dry zone, a licensed irrigation contractor makes the fix.

Lawn treatments: what we leave to licensed providers
Medscapes does not apply fertilizer, weed control or pesticides, so we don't sell specialized lawn treatments. In Florida, lawn insect, weed and disease treatments for hire need a licensed pest control company, so use an FDACS-licensed provider for those.
If you hire one, expect a summer pause: unincorporated Hillsborough, the City of Tampa and Pinellas County ban nitrogen and phosphorus on lawns from June 1 to September 30.
Our part is the mowing, edging, trimming and bed care, plus the sprinkler check, where the crew watches for broken heads, dry spots and overwatering.

What does full service lawn care include?
Mowing, edging, string trimming and blowing, shrub, bed and hedge care, a sprinkler check and seasonal cleanups, on a plan of 40 or 50 weeks a year. The written quote lists the scope for your yard.
Can I book a one-time mow or yard cleanup?
No. We only offer full-service maintenance on 40-week and 50-week plans, so single mows, one-off cleanups and dethatching aren't jobs we take on their own.
How often should a Tampa lawn be mowed?
Often enough that no single cut takes more than a third of the blade, the UF/IFAS limit, while staying inside the height range for your grass in the table above.
Can a plan start on a newly sodded lawn?
Yes, once it has rooted. UF/IFAS puts the first mow of new sod at 14 to 21 days after planting, and the sod is established in three to four weeks.
Do you apply fertilizer or weed control?
No. Medscapes does not apply fertilizer, weed control or pesticides. For lawn treatment services in Tampa, use an FDACS-licensed provider.
Do you fix broken sprinklers?
No. We don't install or repair irrigation. The sprinkler check on each plan shows where coverage falls short, and a licensed irrigation contractor makes the repairs.
Which day can I water my lawn?
As of October 2026, one day a week under the SWFWMD order, which runs through March 31, 2027. The last digit of your address sets the day unless your utility, such as Pinellas County Utilities, sets its own; the watering section above lists the days and hours.
What sets the price of lawn maintenance?
Lawn size, the number of beds and hedges, how much cleanup the yard needs and whether you pick 40 or 50 weeks. We don't publish prices: Doug quotes each property after the free estimate visit.
