Landscaping in Trinity, FL starts with your water source. As of October 2026, drinking and well water get one watering day a week, and Pasco County Utilities reclaimed water gets one day with longer hours. FGUA sets its own reclaimed hours. Both FGUA and Pasco County Utilities serve Trinity, so read your bill. Medscapes designs and installs beds, sod, pavers, lighting and drainage. Doug Wilson, Director of Operations, walks each yard and writes the quote himself. Estimates are free and on site.

Water source
Your water source sets your watering rules, and on reclaimed water your utility does
Two utilities serve Trinity, FGUA and Pasco County Utilities, and your water bill names yours. Pasco County's water service area map, first drawn in 2012 from Public Service Commission descriptions, shows both inside the Census Bureau's boundary for Trinity. Of 60 evenly spaced sample points in that boundary, 48 fall in FGUA's area and 12 in the county utility's. That counts land area, not homes, so go by your bill.
As of October 2026, FGUA tells its customers to follow their water management district's rule or their county's, whichever is stricter. For drinking and well water, that points you to the District order and Pasco's rules.
For exclusive use of reclaimed water, the District sets only voluntary hours unless the local government or utility restricts it. Pasco County Utilities limits its reclaimed water to one day a week. If FGUA supplies your reclaimed water, confirm its hours with FGUA. Reclaimed service does not reach every street: Pasco County Utilities says availability depends on proximity to reclaimed mains.
- Read the bill
- Your water bill names your utility. FGUA's website also has a map that checks a service address.
- Ask about reclaimed
- Ask that utility whether a reclaimed main runs past your street. Where none does, your lawn uses drinking or well water.
- Look for purple
- Florida requires reclaimed piping, valves and heads to be purple and labeled not for drinking.

Established lawns and beds
Watering days and hours in Trinity, by water source
As of October 2026, an established lawn gets one watering day a week, set by the last digit of the house number, and Saturday and Sunday are off. Pasco's guide bars lawn and landscape watering from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., whatever the source.
| Water source | Watering hours | Who sets the rule |
|---|---|---|
| Drinking, well or surface water | One cycle, midnight to 4 a.m. or 8 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. | Pasco County ordinance and the District order through March 31, 2027, which list the same day |
| Pasco County reclaimed water | One cycle, midnight to 8 a.m. | Pasco County Utilities |
| Reclaimed water from FGUA or another utility | Set by that utility | The utility |
Pasco's page allows one cycle, in either night window. The District order lets a property of one acre or more use both windows, so Pasco's rule is the stricter one for those lots.

New sod and plants
New sod and plants: the 60-day schedule splits by water source
As of October 2026, a new lawn or bed gets a 60-day establishment period under the District order, which runs through March 31, 2027. Count the 60 days from the day of installation.
- Days 1 to 30
Water any day of the week, in the hours for your water source.
- Days 31 to 60
On Pasco County reclaimed water, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, midnight to 8 a.m. On drinking or well water, three days a week in the night hours, with the written watering schedule that the District order requires. Pasco's page and the District order list the same first two days: Monday and Wednesday for odd house numbers, Tuesday and Thursday for even. The two sources disagree on the third day, a weekend day, and Medscapes has not settled which governs. Check it with Pasco County Utilities before day 31.
- After day 60
Return to the regular one-day schedule by house number.

Grass, shrubs and beds: matching plants to the water you get
A Trinity yard may run on FGUA reclaimed water, Pasco County Utilities reclaimed water, drinking water or a well, and some streets have no reclaimed main at all. Pick plants after you know which one feeds your hose bibs and your lawn.
Grass
UF/IFAS rates salt tolerance Good for the three grasses Medscapes lays, St. Augustine, zoysia and Bermuda, so reclaimed water does not rule any of them out. Sun, shade and wear decide the choice. Ask Doug at the walk-through which of the three fits your lot.
Shrubs and beds
Pasco County Utilities says turf and ornamental plants have different water needs, and on its reclaimed water it limits you to decorative landscaping plants. Group the plants in a bed by water need.

Drainage and permits for a Trinity project
The Census Bureau lists Trinity as a census designated place, not a city, so Pasco County sets the permit rules for your lot. We pull the permits your job needs.
Drainage plans
Pasco's lot grading page says construction outside a Special Flood Hazard Area can still need a drainage plan. Fill added in a floodplain must be offset cup for cup.
If your project adds a structure or fill, ask the county whether a plan applies.
Trees
Ask Pasco County before you plan to take out a tree. Under its residential tree permit checklist (revised November 12, 2025), a native tree 5 inches or more across at breast height needs a permit on a lot with a finished home. Non-native trees, palms and pines other than longleaf are exempt unless they appear on an approved plan, and wetland rules always apply. Florida Statute 163.045 adds a state exception for a tree documented as an unacceptable risk on a single-family lot. Medscapes offers tree consultations.

What does a Pasco drainage plan have to show for a Trinity project?
Pasco's lot grading page says a drainage plan shows, at a minimum, the finished floor elevation of the structure, existing and proposed ground elevations where you will build, and the intended drainage path. It adds flood zone and wetland lines where they apply. A Florida registered Professional Engineer signs and seals it. Ask the county whether your project needs one.
How do I tell which utility serves my Trinity address?
Read the utility name on your water bill. FGUA's website has a map that checks a service address. The county's service area layer was first drawn in 2012 from Public Service Commission descriptions. If it disagrees with your bill, go by the bill and ask that utility which rules it applies.
My Trinity water bill comes from FGUA. Which watering rule do I follow?
FGUA tells its customers to follow their water management district's rule or their county's, whichever is stricter. As of October 2026, for drinking, well and surface water, the District order and Pasco's page list the same watering day, set by the last digit of the house number. Both allow one cycle, from midnight to 4 a.m. or from 8 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. (Pasco's page says 8 p.m. to midnight).
Can I grow vegetables or herbs in a Trinity bed that gets reclaimed water?
Pasco County Utilities bars watering gardens and fruit and vegetable plants with reclaimed water and limits it to decorative landscaping plants. UF/IFAS says herbs eaten fresh, such as thyme and oregano, should get drinking water. If another utility serves you, ask it for its rule before you plant.
Do I need a permit to take out a tree in Trinity?
Under Pasco's residential tree permit checklist, a native tree 5 inches or more across at breast height needs a permit on a lot with a finished home. Non-native trees, palms and pines other than longleaf are exempt unless they appear on an approved plan, and wetland rules always apply. Florida Statute 163.045 sets a state exception for a tree documented as an unacceptable risk on a single-family lot. Ask the county before any tree comes out. Medscapes offers tree consultations.
How do watering hours change if my Trinity yard runs on a well instead of reclaimed water?
As of October 2026 the District order covers private wells, so a well lawn gets one watering day a week by house number, in one night window: midnight to 4 a.m. or 8 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. Reclaimed water from Pasco County Utilities gets midnight to 8 a.m. on its once-a-week schedule.
